Intern with WWF Cities (climate policy and action)
Do you want to learn how WWF’s Global Cities programme works to support the transition to a future where we live in harmony with nature? Apply for an internship in the WWF Cities-team!
Are you interested in supporting WWF’s push for more ambitious climate policy and actions in cities in the EU and around the world? At WWF, we envision cities as transformation catalysts, implementing integrated and inclusive plans in line with the Paris Agreement and its 1.5°C goal, while ensuring urban resilience and unlocking individual and collective climate and nature actions – cities where people thrive within our planet’s ecological limits. If this sounds interesting to you, please apply for an internship with us!
This internship will focus on helping advance WWFs international Cities work and provides an opportunity to learn from how WWF supports bottom-up engagement in cities all the way up to international advocacy, in a global network with global goals.
WWF Cities’ engagement uses the WWF global flagship initiative, the One Planet City Challenge (OPCC), as a point of departure. The OPCC invites local governments to report their climate data on a global, standardized platform. WWF assesses this data, providing individualized feedback to cities, guiding them to align with the 1.5°C ambition and best practice mitigation and adaptation plans. In 2023-2024, we are happy over 350 cities joined the OPCC – the greatest participation ever!
You will be able to learn from and support the implementation of the OPCC program, which will focus on increasing the program’s impact in the EU and bringing more cities to alignment with the 1.5°C objective of the Paris Agreement. You will among other things support the preparation and documentation of webinars with cities, meetings with WWF offices/other stakeholders engaged in the initiative, data collection and desktop research, as well as follow up actions together with selected country offices as relevant.
As time and your background permits, you may also be invited to assist in the development of policy recommendations, funding applications and corresponding briefs, eg in support of integrated action and nature-based solutions for healthy and resilient cities.
